How PPF works
The Public Provident Fund is the government's most trusted long-term savings scheme. Minimum 15 years, extendable in blocks of 5 years after that.
Loan: from the 3rd year you can borrow against the PPF balance. Withdrawal: partial withdrawal is allowed from the 7th year.
Tax: EEE status, meaning deposits qualify for 80C, interest is tax free and maturity is tax free. In the 30% slab, Rs. 1.5 lakh in PPF saves roughly Rs. 46,000 in extra tax.
